Dear Doctor

Dear Doctor

This is your invitation

Dear Doctor,

Physicians can no longer afford to be reactive when it comes to diversity, inclusion, and addressing racism and its impacts on patient outcomes in healthcare.

We are seeing a shift in the world that brings this topic to the forefront of the priority list for all organizations and professions, and for good reason. Training and education in this area has moved from optional to necessary. Medical schools are booking these professional development opportunities as a matter of keeping patient safety and health equity a top priority and ultimately ensuring they are on the right side of history.

As a physician, you are in a position to create a healthcare environment with the necessary information, policies, procedures and attitudes to shift into the new standards of patient care and improved health outcomes currently being forged.

If this opportunity is missed or ignored, you leave yourself and your institution or workplace open to a PR nightmare at best, a tense, toxic, and potentially life-threatening environment with potential for legal action at worst. None of those scenarios are good for your professional reputation, standards, or the future of culturally safe health care in our country.

That’s why now is the perfect time to take action and take full advantage of the positive momentum that has opened up these conversations in a way we’ve never seen before. By providing a simple to incorporate opportunity for learning and development to your medical students, you’re ensuring you have dotted your i’s and crossed your t’s. Because ultimately you know that when it comes to anti-racist values in healthcare, you want to be a leader who inspires and supports your future colleagues to talk the talk and walk the walk.

With the right plan, making the medical community anti-racist does not have to be overwhelming or confusing. It doesn’t need to take a lot of time either.

The research-based benefits range from reducing the bias that leads to errors in clinical decision making, to a more engaged and dedicated health workforce representative of the communities you serve.

The question then becomes, how do you ensure that you incorporate this important work in a way that’s relatable, forward-thinking, and creates the level of understanding that ensures that everyone will be on board?

The answer is hiring a company that has the experience, knowledge and know-how to do the work with your medical students in a seamless evidence-based and professional way. A way that leaves everyone feeling like they have the understanding they need to shift attitudes, policies, and relationships in order to benefit the entire healthcare field. Because the last thing you need is increased tension, confusion, or pressure during this critical time.

As both a seasoned facilitator and therapist, our lead facilitator Erin Matthews is more than equipped to handle any feelings or situations that arise in a smooth, professional and growth-oriented manner. She is extremely well versed in inclusion and anti-racism work and able to explain why and how things need to change in a relatable manner.

Her co-facilitator Nima Novak brings a depth of knowledge in anti-racist work and a vital specialization in evidence based somatic practices which enables her to guide difficult conversations in a peaceful and harmonious way, allowing for deeper integration of the material.

Together they create a welcoming environment in which people can experience the safe exploration of bias and white privilege, all while understanding their power to create deeply positive change. They are also available to consult with your team to develop an action plan tailored to your specific goals, should you wish.
