Dear Friend

Dear FRIEND

This is your invitation

For the friend who wants to be an ally.

You’ve read a lot of books and articles on racism. You feel you have done your own work and want to be an ally. You are just not quite sure how to do that.

You’ve read about dismantling the oppressive system we live in but are not sure how you can do that without taking out a sign and protesting.

You know when you are at brunch with your friends and one of your friends starts talking about her “tribe” that that term really is not ok. Or when one of the girls makes a comment about “that new family” that just moved in and you know that she is not talking about them in a kind way. You do not know if you should say something or even how you would start that conversation.

You feel uncomfortable.

You’re afraid to say things around your friends.

You question if you should even give a compliment to a woman of color on her outfit or hair. You just want to show that you are supportive. You want to learn how to be an ally in both big and little everyday ways. We will be talking about how to be an ally and what that even looks like.

Being uncomfortable is part of the process of being an ally.

We will go more in depth with why it looks like to become an ally.

You could go on wondering how to be an effective ally or you could learn in an environment with other women and learn how to show up and be an effective ally.
